How to Charge a Chinese EV on the Road in Ukraine: The GB/T Port and a Safe CCS2 Adapter

How to Charge a Chinese EV on the Road in Ukraine: The GB/T Port and a Safe CCS2 Adapter

Bought a Chinese EV — a Zeekr, BYD or something else — and planning your first long trip across Ukraine? The real question isn't “how far will it go,” but “how and where do I charge on the road.” The factory GB/T port, a Chinese interface, and apps tied to Chinese services turn a simple charge into a quest. Below is a practical guide, no filler: which port you have, how to use a CCS2/Type2 adapter safely, and why without localization and connectivity even a fully working station may fail to “see” your car. At EVLANG (Kyiv), we get your car road-ready in a single visit.

What it is and why you need it

GB/T is the Chinese charging-port standard. Physically it differs from European connectors. Ukraine's public network is mostly CCS2 (fast DC) and Type2 (AC). If your car has a GB/T port, you can't plug into these stations directly.

To charge on the road you need three things:

  • An adapter for your port. It lets a GB/T car connect to CCS2 or Type2. But not every adapter will do: a cheap passive one with no thermal control overheats at high currents. The adapter must be matched to your car's power.
  • Connectivity and localized software. So the app can see stations, plan a route with charging stops, show connector status, and handle payment. Without local connectivity and a region-adapted interface, navigation “leads nowhere” and some functions are simply unavailable.
  • A road-ready car. When the software is adapted for Ukraine and the adapter is chosen correctly, charging on the road becomes routine rather than an adventure.

What's included / how we do it

We work carefully and transparently:

  1. Diagnostics (~15 min). We check the car's configuration, port type, and multimedia version.
  2. Backup. Before any changes we back up the current software state — so there's a safe rollback.
  3. Localization for Ukraine. We adapt the interface and apps, set up connectivity, maps, and station-aware navigation.
  4. Critical ECUs untouched. Battery management, brakes, and driver-assistance systems (ADAS) stay factory — we only work at the multimedia, localization, and connectivity level.
  5. A road adapter. We select and test a DC adapter matched to your car's power.

Work in the shop usually takes 1–2 hours.

Models and compatibility

  • Zeekr (001, 007, 7X) — interface localization, connectivity, maps, and navigation.
  • BYD — multimedia adaptation for the Ukrainian region.
  • Audi e-tron / VW ID — adaptation and activation of features for our market.

GB/T ↔ CCS2/Type2 adapter compatibility depends on the specific model and its onboard system, so we verify it by VIN before starting.

FAQ

Is it safe to charge through an adapter?

Yes, if the adapter is matched to your car's power and in good condition. The risk comes from cheap adapters with no thermal control at peak currents — which is exactly why we match the adapter to the specific model.

What if an OTA update overwrites the localization?

If an official OTA update overwrites our localization, we re-apply it free of charge within 6 months.

Will you touch anything critical in the car?

No. We make a backup, keep a safe rollback, and don't touch critical ECUs — only multimedia, localization, and connectivity.

Ready for the road?

If you're planning a trip, it's best to prepare the car in advance. Message us on Telegram, WhatsApp, or Viber, or call +38 (063) 010-12-34, give us the VIN — and you'll get an exact price and turnaround time. And if you drive a Zeekr, start with the ZEEKR localization page — it covers what's possible for your model in detail.
